For a moment it got a little bit quiet when it comes to what has been going on in Red River Gorge. But with the start of another week, there is also another news coming from one of America’s best sport climbing spots. According to what
Jacopo Larcher reports on his blog, he and
Mélissa Le Nevé have been successful on their new projects. Jacopo, who came to Red River Gorge with his personal best of 8c and 8a+ OS, has already improved his result six times by doing, among others,
Pure Imagination and
Southern Smoke, both 8c+. To date, Mélissa’s top rope difficulty was 8b+ (
Renegoide in Siurana, Spain) and now she has already managed to get through with 8c+,
50 Words for Pump.
As their month long stay in RRG is heading for an end, Jacopo and Mélissa’s have been pushing themselves even harder and after a rest day they clipped the rope to the anchors of another Red River classics. Jacopo worked out the initial boulder of
Southern Smoke Direct and climbed the entire route and
Mélissa applied successfully the right beta for the original
8c+ version of the line.
Jacopo seems to be truly bewitched by the beauty of Red River climbing and mentions
24 Karats 5.14c (8c+) by
Jonathan Siegrist located in the
Gold Coast sector as one of his potential goals for the nearest future.
