In climbing I do things that I enjoy and want to do not the ones that are currently in fashion.

Chamonix 2012 – we know the winners of the Speed Climbing event!

Yesterday evening, in the beautiful scenery of Chamonix the final round of the second WC edition in Speed Climbing took place.

In  the women’s category the most consistent competitor appeared to be Aleksandra Rudzinska of Poland, who already in the qualification round achieved the time result of 9.03 s and consequently managed to maintain her superb shape to the great final winning over her rival, Alina Gaydamakina of Russia (9.00 s to 9.19 s). This way, Aleksandra not only achieved her greatest success in the senior category so far but also established new national record. The third place was taken by Natalia Titova, who won with a significant advantage of 9.40 s to 10.64 s achieved by Yuliya Levochkina, both of Russia. Levochkina, who was the winner of the overal WC classification in 2010 was the fastest women of the competition – in the Qualification round she managed to complete the route in 8.53 s, which means she actually set a new World Record but unfortunately her run of good luck ended shortly after.

In the men’s final Stanislav Kokorin of Russia did not give any chances to his rival Danylo Boldyrev of Ukraine and completed the route in 6.40 s. He was also the author of the best male time result of the whole event, 6.28 s. Yaroslav Gontaryk, who ended the competition on the 3rd place, managed to maintain his results below the 7s limit in every round. The current Men's 15 Meter Speed World Record equals 6.26 and was established by Qixin Zhong of China during last year’s IFSC World Championship in Arco, Italy.

This season the enthusiasts of Speed Climbing will be able to watch six editions of the WC series and the main event of the year, the IFSC World Championship that is going to take place in Paris, France in the Middle of September. Maybe then, similarily to the last year, we will experience the emotions of breaking the World Record.

The next WC edition in Speed Climbing will be held on July 28 and 29 in Val Daone, Italy.

The live coverage of all the IFSC climbing events is available at http://www.ifsc.tv/
