Bereziartu and Otegui make their first free ascent
in the Pyrenees

In mid- June Josune Bereziartu together with her husband Rikar Otegui made the first free ascent of Divina Comedia A2+, eleven pitch aid route at the Ordesa National Park in the Spanish Pyrenees. Divina Comedia was set up by the Catalan climbers Juan Tomas, Juan Carlos Serrano and Enrique Promio in 1981. Bereziartu and Otegui on-sighted the 300m line using the in-situ pegs and natural gear for protection. They graded the line French 7c.

Bereziartu and Otegui, who are known mostly for their great successes in sport climbing, have already had some very hard multi-pitch routes under their belts. In July 2002 Bereziartu together with Iker Pou made the first female and second one-day free ascent of El Pilar Cantabrico 8a+, 13-pitch line up El Naranjo des Bulnes in the Picos de Europa range of northern Spain.
In 2004 Bereziartu and Otegui made the second free ascent of Yeah Man 8b, 9-pitch route on the north face of the Grand Pfadlue, in the Swiss Gastlosen mountain range.
