70 alpinists took part in a premier educational event!!
A unique educational premier took place in July 2012 at the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. Presented as a weekend of mountaineering education, experience and inspiration, alpine beginners and skilled mountaineers from Switzerland, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany and Scandinavia took part in a variety of workshops designed to introduce and hone mountain skills. Amongst the courses offered were alpine climbing, high altitude mountaineering, mountain rescue, navigation in the mountains and an overnight bivouac.
One of the weekend’s highlights was a breathtaking climb lead by Nina Caprez at the Arête des Cosmiques, an event sure to be remembered by the three lucky winners who accompanied this impressive athlete.
The Overnight Bivouac Clinic, held at the Col du Géant (3365m),guided by world renowned alpinist Ines Papert and mountain guide Isabelle Santoire, saw a group of 12 committed mountaineers spend a tough night out on the glaciers in poor conditions. The experience was made comfortable by Hilleberg tents, Primus stoves and Trek’n Eat food.
120 people took part in the Movie Night, a social event and showcase for alpine films and culture.
The aim of the weekend was to raise awareness about personal responsibility and self-sufficiency in the mountains. The event was sponsored by Arc’teryx, Gore-Tex, Scarpa, Suunto and the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, supported with necessary equipment.
Thanks to the success of this premier event, a second Alpine Arc’ademy will take place in Chamonix 2013.
