Black Diamond Viper Ice Tool With New Technology
Calling it an update would be an understatement. Once again, Black Diamond sets standards with its new version of its Viper ice tool. The Viper got a revolutionary hydro-formed shaft. The result: extremely light, but much stiffer; enhanced clearance, optimal performance properties. The other details like a new dual density grip and customized Fang and Strike are nothing to be shy about too. The clipping eye can be used with the Fang attached. A new standard for lovers of modern ice and alpine routes.
Black Diamond is the first manufacturer to transfer hydro form technology from bicycle frame construction to its ice tools. An aluminum blank is pressed into the specialized shape of a Viper shaft using water and high pressure. This generates a three dimensional CEN-T certified and patented shaft with a new, optimized cross section. It features 25% greater stiffness, 65 g less weight, enhanced clearance and higher climbing performance than its predecessor model. The lighter shaft allows a shift of the centre of gravity towards the tool head. A finely balanced swing and heft are the result. The Viper’s stiffness optimizes energy transfer from the climber to the ice and improves precision.
The Viper comes with a Laser pick made from 4340CrMo steel and a micro hammer or micro adze. Fang and Strike have been redesigned for the Viper and are included. The orange Viper is available in a length of 50cm at a suggested retail price of 189,00 Euro.
