Cobra Ice Tool With New High Tech Design
Black Diamond’s legendary Cobra ice tool celebrates its eighth birthday in the winter of 2007. For that occasion Black Diamond has given the Cobra a new high grade design. A new shaft shape made from carbon fibre fits the tool’s name. The Cobra impresses with performance, light weight, and versatility. All that makes the Cobra remain the tool of choice for hard ice and alpine routes.
Carbon is the ultimate material to achieve maximum strength at minimal weight. It’s already been eight years that Black Diamond developed the Cobra ice tool that made history then.
The new CEN-T certified and patented carbon shaft is extremely light weight and deforms much less than comparable aluminum shafts. The new cobra-like shaft shape allows more clearance than any other Black Diamond ice tool. The centre of gravity could move toward the tool head, giving the tool perfect balance. Optimal energy transfer, precision and finely balanced strike and swing properties offer a climbing performance that seeks its equal!
Besides, the new Cobra is almost incredibly light. Its 578g (including Fang and Strike) represent a weight saving of 124 g compared to its predecessor model. It comes equipped with a 4340 CrMo steel Laser pick and a micro hammer or optional micro adze. Fang and Strike have been redesigned for the Cobra and are included. Particularly handy: The Strike can be mounted in two positions (high or low), making it fit individually. The clip-in eye on the Spike allows clipping a carabiner even when the Fang is mounted. In hard ice routes the Cobra can be used with the optional Android leash. Various picks, hammers and adzes can be exchanged as required, making the Cobra a highly versatile high tech ice tool.
