Beauty and harmony
Katarina, who is Czech and still keeps in touch with local climbers, organized a guide for us – Standa Holec, the owner of the Czech climbing portal czechclimbing.com. We settled an appointment at the border on the following day. We were there on time, and so was he. Still we didn’t see him, neither did he see us. After a telephone call everything was clear: we were waiting on the German side, he – on the Czech one. After the first difficulties, we finally met and followed Standa to the beautiful Elbe Valley.
The river was flowing slowly on our right. From the forest around one could already see the walls, and on the left there was one brothel after another. As I mentioned, everything was beautiful and idyllic. Some houses couldn’t be recognized for what they were at first sight. As it was not the destination of our trip, we continued towards the climbing area. Suddenly the car in front of us turned and stopped in a car park in front of a night club “Relax”. We were a bit surprised when, after leaving the car, we were welcomed by a tall blond girl with an impressive cleavage – a great beginning of the day. “Should we get to the rocks, or start warming up here?”
“No, we aren’t going to stay. From here we take a boat to cross the river and go straight to the rocks.” This is really cool. Unfortunately, that day the water level was too low for the boat, and the situation was not going to change. This meant driving another 11 km to Decin, where there is a bridge, and going back on the other side. We follow Stand and other local climbers, passing old cars and home made tractors.
