But after finishing the Ultimate Route I still had a lot of climbing opportunities; there were 60 routes from 6a to 8c equipped with quickdraws (900!!!), so you could climb from dawn to dusk and even longer. The men’s Ultimate Route (8c+) was a bigger challenge. After three days of attempts nobody could do it. And there were stars like Chris Sharma, Dani Andrada, Ben Moon, Edu Marin and Daniel Dulac…. There was also Klemen Bečan, who was no more an outsider. The cameramen were waiting for his attempt. When the sun disappeared behind the corner, after taking a short nap and eating his favorite Rio mare tuna, he did it! A day after in the last hours of official time (there are judges under the route) also Chris Sharma did it.
The Petzl Roc Trip spirit was alive all day. In the “base camp” in Millau other events were organized. Morning and evening yoga sessions, slide shows presented by famous climbers, climbing movies, concerts…The days (and nights) were long. We got some necessary energy from the delicious local food but most of it came from the relaxed and friendly atmosphere prevailing among us, passionate climbers. I think everybody gets stronger and climbs beyond their limits at an event like this!
